WEEKLY WRAP UP

Great week...did lots of work, had lots of fun giveaways on the blog, and spent some great time with my husband, with friends, and with myself. On Friday, I saw my sister and her boyfriend perform in The Music Man at their high-school. They were fabulous. :) On Saturday, Jon and I had a "no-plans-day". We slept in, were totally lazy, watched a bazillion episodes of Naruto, watched a depressing movie (oops), played with the cats, cooked a yummy, yummy dinner, and got some quality cuddle time in. Best Saturday ever. Today, we went to church, got my car prepped for our vacation this week, visited with my family, got frozen yogurt, and visited with Jon's family. Such a wonderful weekend!

AND I'm super proud of myself right now. I'm 17 days into my new intentional living for my health and fitness lifestyle change and I've been rocking it. I want to go into more detail about this in a dedicated post but I just wanted to briefly update you and let you know I'm feeling amazing and so, so excited and happy I made this decision for my life. By the way, if you have any great suggestions for healthy snack-age I'd love to hear! I'm a muncher looking for healthy alternatives. ;)

Snapshot(s) of the Week: 1// Dinner with the ever lovely Emily and Amanda after work on Monday. 2// Antiquing time with myself at Kudzu. 3// Flower legs Friday night going to see sister at her play. 4// Wednesday picking up Jon's and my NEW vacuum from my in-laws, you might be an adult if you get excited about a new vacuum....

ADVENTURES IN THRIFT-TIQUING - PART 4

Month four of my Thrift-tiquing challenge! Today I took a little lunch break and went over to a beautiful antique store called Kudzu. It was stunning, beautiful...and I want to go everyday! A dear friend of mine, Emily, of The Wonder List has recently inspired me to be more adventurous. She's so good about exploring new places to eat, shop and visit. Her repertoire of places she's already visited in Atlanta is quite impressive and it makes me feel lame-o for not taking the time to explore where I live more. I've been able to visit a couple new places and I've really enjoyed that adventurous feeling! I think I always had the "grass is always greener" syndrome about where I live, but I'm starting to realize Atlanta is a pretty snazzy place and has a lot to offer. :)

So Kudzu was a new-to-me place I've never visited before and I realized it was only 10 minutes away from where I live! It's antique heaven!

I picked up four beautiful stoneware plates from Kudzu in this retro little booth. I've been wanting to build a dinnerware collection of mix-matched vintage plates, bowls and cups and I thought this would be the perfect start to my collection! :) Fun Facts: These stoneware dinner plates where hand painted in Japan.

Another good month of antiquing down!

SOLO FEATURE: APPLE BLUE

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Amanda and I've been a blogger for a few years now. I'm 31 years old and live in Denver, CO. I'm going to go ahead and say this is the most beautiful place I've ever lived. Each morning, on the drive to work, I have the city skyline to my left and the mountains to my right. I'm currently working on opening my first retail store! It's been quite an adventure so far and I love sharing every step of the process with my readers. I also blog DIY projects, business and blogging tips, artist and designer features, reviews, and pretty much anything else that makes me happy. I'm obsessed with puppies, vintage, home decorating, ethnic food, and documentaries.

2. What made you decide to start your blog and business?
I originally started my blog as a way to record my journey into discovering my creative side. Over the years, that developed into two different Etsy shops, an amazing outlet for writing (I was an English Major in college...) craft fairs, and working really hard to become a better blogger. I have learned so much and loved every minute. I never expected this blog to become what it is today, but I'm overwhelmingly blessed that it has. I blog around 5 days a week and also work as a freelance blog designer and small business consultant.

3. What are your favorite things to blog about? Favorite posts?
One of my top rules for blogging is "Only blog it if you really, really love it." Here are some of the posts that I've enjoyed sharing the most! My 52 Weeks With Dorothy series, things I think are amazing like the projects in this Paper Crafts post, and sharing the honest and real side of my life, like I did in this post about The Best Advice I Never Took.

4. Favorite past-time?
My favorite past time is at the moment is Sudoku. I'm a bit obsessed actually. I really feel like it helps me get my mind going in the morning while I drink my tea. And for someone as insanely competitive as I am, it is definitely a great challenge.

5. What's on your current wish-list?
Here are three things on the top of my wish list right now: Comfy things like The Henry Sofa from West Elm, slightly geeky things like this folding tripod, and just plain pretty things like these pillows from Harvest Textiles.

6. Favorite blog reads?
I would read a hundred blogs a day if I could, but there are a few that I never miss: Under the Sycamore for her amazing DIY's, photography, and international adoption story. The Harvest Textiles blog because it's always so fascinating and inspiring. I also love  Oh Ladycakes because her recipes and food photography are genius.

7. If you had three wishes what would they be?
If I had three wishes, they would be for all my family and friends to live in the same city, a winning lottery ticket so I could open my store tomorrow, and of course... my third wish would be for unlimited wishes.

8. What's your favorite meal?
My favorite meal would be a plate of the world's best sushi.

9. What inspires you the most?
I have always been most inspired by films and documentaries. There are so many talented and creative directors out there and it always pushes me to create something.

NEW SERVICES OFFERED BY MAIEDAE + READER PERK

When Jenny and I decided to re-design the new Maiedae website, we also wanted to take the time to have Maiedae's logo redesigned and further revise our professional services to fit what we love doing! We closed the cyber doors to our handmade shop to make more time for blogging, graphic design, and photography. And we now have NEW and revised package options that are designed around the blogger, small business owner, and those with website design needs. Here are some details about our new services offered below:

BLOG DESIGN
We will continue to offer two great blog design packages. The first is our Entreé option, for those of you looking for a blog facelift and basic re-design. The second is our Full Course package, if you're looking for a complete overhaul and new design down to the last detail. We are also offering a full Side Items menu which allows you to pick certain design elements if you're not ready to purchase a whole package OR if you'd like to add onto the package you already have. You can get more details on our blog design packages by visiting here and check out some of our recent work by visiting here.

BRANDING
One of the most important things about having a small business is developing a strong brand. We love designing logos and important business elements that coordinate and make a businesses brand evident. We offer a menu of branding options and work with you to put together a custom package for your business. We do everything from logo design to client PDF design and everything in-between. :) Check out more details about our branding options here and some of our work here.

WEBSITE DESIGN
Website design is a NEW service we are now offering through Maiedae! We are offering two new exciting packages for clients looking for something more professional and customizable. The first is a Portal Page design. This is a one page website design that contains links to your internet presence. Think of having all of your business related URLs in ONE PLACE so when you hand out your business card, or refer someone directly to your site, they just go to one URL in order to access everything. OR if you're looking for something more, we offer Micro Site design! If you visit our new Maiedae website you can get a good idea of what a micro site entails. It's a full custom design with navigation and high quality development to show off your best stuff. :) Both Portal page and Micro site designs are customized to fit your personal branding and sense of style. More info about our website packages can be found here.

PHOTOGRAPHY
We are so excited to now be offering photography services in the greater Atlanta area! We are specializing in mini-sessions which allow you to get professional pictures for an affordable price and fast! Mini-sessions are great for singles, couples, maternity, senior portraits, holidays, or "just because". We love taking vibrant, vintage inspired pictures. WEEKLY WRAP UP

This week has been challenging and good. As mentioned in my last wrap up post, I've decided to make a commitment toward my health and wellness by exercising and changing my diet. I am super proud of myself this week. I've hit my work-out goals, been eating breakfast every morning, and nearly stripped all the junk food out of my diet. I'm feeling good and full of energy! I had my first session with my personal trainer on Tuesday and she kicked my butt. I felt great Tuesday evening, but literally felt like I had been in a car crash all day Wednesday and Thursday.

I'm feeling a lot of support from my husband, family, and friends about this new decision and I'm feeling strong in my perseverance. :)

On Friday, as some of you know, Jenny and I launched the new www.Maiedae.com website. We are so ecstatic and excited for this step for Maiedae and we can't wait to see the growth of our business in 2012.

On Saturday, I helped Jenny move into her new apartment, which she will live in with Drew when they get married. Ah! I can't wait until their wedding in June!!

Snapshot(s) of the Week: 1// Laughing Kyo. 2// Plum polish and springtime maxi dress. 3// Coffee stop before Jenny and I made a trip up to Rome, GA, on Thursday. 4// Found a turtle friend with Jenny and Drew while we were moving Jenny on Saturday.

NEW WEBSITE + BRANDING!

Last night was a big night! We officially launched the brand new Maiedae website and branding! Jenny and I have been working on the design and concept of this design and new branding since last September. We made many changes, went back and fourth, and finally landed on something we LOVE and are so proud of.

A couple neat things to note about the new design: the new Maiedae logo was drawn by the incredibly talented Chelsea of Oh My Deer. She did an amazing job! When Jenny and I first got the logo several months back, we could barely stand waiting to release it! --- All of the pictures that you see of Jenny and I on the website were taken by Danielle of Valimont Photography. We got our pictures taken with her a little over a month ago, and are so pleased with her work and editing style. We love how bright and clear they are, and how they really capture "Maiedae".

I also have to take some time to brag on two other very important people. First, my husband Jon who developed and coded this site from the ground up. He is a genius and did such an amazing job! You'll notice that we are now offering web design service and that's because Jon has come on board as part of the Maiedae team as a senior developer! So exciting!! AND I want to thank the lovely Leah, who has been working as Maiedae's editor and ad manager for a couple months. She helped us edit through a lot of the content on our website and is just an amazing asset to the team. :)

To reminisce, here is just a reminder of what the old website looked like. We designed it as a temporary portal page when we first became co-owners:

We are so glad to have moved onto a new look for Maiedae that can really grow with us as we evolve and expand our business. We will be working throughout the week to tie up any loose ends, make sure "Maiedae" is spelled correctly and get rid of all the "MaieDae's". We'll be re-designing our social network pages, client PDFs, and creating new business cards!! Last night, I was able to get the new blog look up...what do you think?? I've still got a couple tweaks to make to it, but I love how fresh and clean it is! :)

BUT, the party has just begun!! In order to celebrate, instead of sipping wine and eating strawberries by ourselves, we will be having a sort of customer//supporter appreciation party on my blog and Jenny's blog for the next couple days!! We'll kick it off with some awesome details on the new packages we're offering and a special reader perk. THEN, we'll be giving away four AWESOME prizes to celebrate!! Get ready! And tell all yo' friends!! ;)

WE ARE CUTE

I mentioned in this post that I was starting a custom portrait collection of Jon and me, and eventually our kitties and future youngin's. ;) I've been admiring our sweet little paper dolls from Jordan and I can't wait to get a great frame for them and hang it up in our new place in August! :) A couple weeks ago, Victoria of Batzy Rockshop contacted me about doing a portrait of Jon and me. I took a look at her work and loved her quirky art style and beautiful portraits.

I sent her a few pictures of Jon and me to reference and she created the above digital portrait of us. I love it! It's adorable and definitely shows off our more rock-n-roll side. I'm planning to have it printed and framed to hang along with my paper dolls. My little collection is growing! Yeah!!

If you're looking for a custom portrait as a gift or for yourself, I definitely recommend checking out Victoria's shop and blog! She has fabulous style, is way talented AND her blog is a great read. ;)

Thank you, Victoria, for my beautiful piece of art!

WEEKLY WRAP-UP

Made big changes this week. On Thursday, I met with my new personal trainer//nutritionist. We talked about my health, eating habits, and she helped me put together a new work-out routine and nutrition plan. To be real, I've never been very motivated to eat healthy and exercise. I just always had a high metabolism and ate what I wanted...and maybe every once in a while did some form of exercise. This year, I've been thinking a lot about my health, what I put into my body, and how I treat myself. After writing my post on 7 Tips to Feeling Your Best I discovered that this was an area I was seriously lacking in.

I had to come to a realization that I want to live a long and healthy life. I want to be energetic and alive for my husband. I want to have a fit body to carry a little-one one day...and I want to keep up with my future family. So, I'm doing this for me, my husband, and my future family. It's really clicked, I've made up my mind. And I'm gonna do this! I've been living my new lifestyle since Thursday, and I'm definitely learning how to adjust to my new eating habits and exercise. Haha, in some ways I've felt like I've been mourning the loss of all of the delicious processed foods and horrible things for me. So it's been a little emotional, in a weird way...has anyone ever felt like that??? But I'm seriously excited and ready to do this. I'll be sure to give you little updates on how I'm doing with this new change!

Snapshot(s) of the Week: 1// Pretty little mini forests from the vintage show I went to yesterday. 2// Soy latte from San Fransisco Coffee Co., best Friday work day with my Emily friend. :) 3// Went to the Dekalb Farmers Market yesterday with Glenn and Kate. So awesome!! 4// New shoes!
5// Working on a logo for a fun client. 6// Reflection picture from Easter. -- Follow more of my pictures via Instagram! Username: Maiedae. :)

SNAPSHOTS: A FINE SATURDAY

Today started off with our grey kitty, Kaito, crying at our door wanting breakfast. After feeding the kitties, Jon and I spent a little time straightening up and I put together this morning's blog post. Jon left to go pick up his new glasses and I worked out and showered. I had been thinking about going to Salvage, a modern vintage show in Atlanta, but had a lot of invite turn-downs due to busy schedules. All ready to go, I sat on the stool in our kitchen...calling just a few more hopefuls, but to no avail. :( I'm not gonna lie...I had been looking forward to this for awhile...and I had been feeling generally emotional, so when it looked like no one could go with me, I cried. No shame, I just let it out.

Things started looking up when it turned out that my sweet mother-in-law was free and she happily met me at my apartment. It was so, so kind of her and I truly appreciated her coming along last minute and having the opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with her. :) There was a lot of vintage booths with housewares, clothes, jewelry, and re-purposed goodies. I loved looking through the treasures and ended up buying a beautiful pair of earrings. Mrs. Wallace and I got ourselves some homemade popsicles from the King of Pops before heading out. Yummy kiwi honey. :)

When we got back, on a whim, I decided to go visit the Dekalb Farmers Market with Kate and Glenn. This was our first visit to the market and it was amazing!! So much good organic, fresh food. I got fruit, yogurt, Bree, and bagels. I love finding awesome new (to me) places in Atlanta. It keeps me feeling adventurous and appreciate where I live.

I wrapped up the evening by making a delicious heated Bree, brown sugar, and pecan gooey goodness with ginger cookies and Kate made homemade guacamole and pita chips. So. Freaking. Delicious.

And here we are, watching "Clue" and drinking Moscato. This Saturday turned from weepy to perfect. :) I'm so thankful for friends, mother-in-laws, yummy yummy food, old hilarious movies, loving husbands, and weekends.

THREADS 4.11.12

This is what I wore on Easter Sunday! The skirt is actually a maxi dress, but I hate the way the "tie around the neck" feels on this dress, so I just tucked in the top part and wore it as a skirt. :)

If you aren't familiar with the lovely Laura, she has a beautiful blog and makes wonderful and creative jewelry. She sent me these earrings in the mail and I love them! Now that my hair is getting a little longer, I've been wanting to wear some more dramatic earrings and these are just perfect. I think the leather fringe and touch of lace is darling. If you're in the mood to "treat yo' self"...I suggest buying sometime special from her shop Roots & Feathers. ;)

Also! I've been on the search high and low for some great lipstick that doesn't make my lips feel dry and crusty (ew!) by the end of the day. I decided to try out the new Revlon Lip Butter colors and I am super happy with how it feels. It goes on almost like a chap-stick and makes my lips feel really moisturized. I currently have Red Velvet (what I'm wearing in the pictures), Cherry Tart, and Peach Parfait. If you buy them at a pharmacy you might be able to score a buy 1 get 1 50% off deal. ;) Hooray for good lipstick!
